What Could Be Better

While there is a universal adapter available, it’s important to note that it won’t work with all phone cases out there: Hard plastic or metal should work just fine, but stay away from rubber.

The inset required by the case prevents your phone from sitting flat on a table, unless you place it face down, and it can rock around when placed face up. It’s not a big deal, but can be annoying.

What We Love

What Could Be Better

While we love all the flexibility, we’re not a huge fan of the look. Depending how many components you add, it’s hard to get the Ram Mounts X-Grip to look low-profile and sleek.

Most other mounts are essentially hidden behind your phone, but with Ram you’re always going to see the tips of the arms holding your phone. The size and bulkiness lends it more to the fork stem as a mounting location, where you can tuck it behind a windscreen, as opposed to on the bike’s handlebars.

3. SP Connect Moto Mount Pro Phone Mount ($70)

What We Love

The Pro Series mount really takes the SP Connect up a level in our opinion. It’s quick and easy to install, and the long arm allows a lot of flexibility in positioning. This means that if you have to stick your mount farther out of the way, it’s a lot easier to get your phone back into an ideal field of view.

One thing that we really love coming out of the SP Connect camp is their Moto Bundle, which makes it easy to find a case that works for your preferred phone brand (there are universal options too) and the mounting location of your choice. There are impressive number of cases designed specifically for a wide range of phones, too.

We also love the Anti Vibration Module that integrates wireless charging. It’s expensive at $100, but this juice is worth the squeeze in our opinion, and it’s compatible with all of the other components.

What Could Be Better

The rotatable arm on this mount is awesome, but we wish that there were options to get shorter or longer arms. With all the other components available with Ram, it seems like that would be a natural offering to improve the visual cleanliness of the installation.

Unfortunately easy to attach can also mean easy to un-attach. While we haven’t experienced it ourselves, we’ve read some horror stories in the community about Ram mounts letting go of smartphones.

4. Rokform Motorcycle Pro Series Perch Mount ($120)

The Perch Mount is a bike phone mount offers a one-hand-friendly locking mechanism. This particular mount is designed to go on the handlebars, and based on the minimum and maximum diameters, is perfect for the cruiser market. It’s important to note that this would be too big for bikes with smaller diameter handlebars.

The mount screws on easily and clamps to the bars, and the arm with mounting head can be repositioned to allow you to move the head to your preferred location to attach your phone.

What We Love

At the time of writing, there is a free vibration dampener included with the purchase of a motorcycle mount, so if you’re worried about vibration damage make sure you hop on it to save some cash!

It’s nice to see a product specifically designed for the cruiser market, and even better that Rokform offers other types of mounts for other mounting locations. They do have a standard handlebar mount as well that will fit non-cruisers.

What Could Be Better

Compared to other manufacturers, Rokform doesn’t offer quite as many types of mounts, which means you’re a bit more limited on mounting locations. This can make it a little harder to tailor your solution for something that functions well and looks good (and by good, we mean visually minimal).

Our biggest disappointment is the lack of wireless charging options for motorcycles. Smartphones chew up battery pretty quick, especially if you’re running GPS navigation and music, and having that battery peace of mind is a worthwhile convenience to invest in.

What We Love

Spring loaded clamp mounts aren’t generally our first choice, but we love how this style is compatible with a wide range of sizes and types of phones. There are some maximum size limits, so keep in mind ultra thick cases may not fit.

The inclusion of rubber inserts means it will lock in just fine with sport bike bars or cruisers bars, and Tackform confidently touts being a great option for off road vehicles like adventure motorcycles, side-by-sides and ATV’s.

One unique option offered is the anti theft knob, which will keep your mount safe from any nefarious activities of passers-by.

What Could Be Better

Our biggest complaint here is the size. It’s bulky, and the piece that holds your phone is large and clunky looking.

We’re also not the biggest fan of clamp style mounts. In a car, sure; but on a motorcycle, generally we’d feel a little bit better with something more secure. We feel that if Tackform was ultimately fully confident in the clamp they wouldn’t provide the rubber sling in the package.

That said, after carefully reading through their warranty page, we’re pretty sure that guarantee doesn’t extend to your device. So while a failed mount might be replaced, your phone won’t.

What We Love

For minimal components, there is a lot to fall in love with here. The arm that comes with the mount can be removed, if you’d prefer it. In essence, that’s a bit of a two-in-one. Sticking your phone to your bike is as easy as dropping it in place, and removing it is as simple as a click of a button.

We also love that the vibration isolator is included with the mount. Not only that; it’s super visually minimal, so you don’t even realize that it’s there behind your phone. The phone case itself is as slim and slick as it gets, and it lays flat on both sides with no rocking.

Peak Design does offer one other style of motorcycle phone mount, if the bar doesn’t work for you, but it’s just those two options.

What Could Be Better

We understand that magnets aren’t the only thing holding the phone on your handlebars here, but we’ve got to be honest: it still makes us a little nervous. Some folks on Reddit swear by Peak Design, but we’ve also seen some stories where the mount has failed.

We’re also a little disappointed that Peak Design only makes cases for iPhones. And while there is a universal adapter option, it’s doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the Peak Design case.
